Terror in Pune; 8 dead, over fifty injured

In what could be called the first major terror attack after 26/11, Pune fell pray to a bomb blast today leaving over fifty people injured and killing eight. The incident occurred in a bakery in Koregaon Park on today evening. Reports say that out of the injured many were foreigners.

The blast occurred when a waiter in the bakery tied to open an unidentified object. The blast is said to have targeted foreigners. Following the blast the government has issued advisory to all citizens saying not to touch any unidentified object.

Security arrangements have been further strengthened in Kolkata ahead of India and South Africa match scheduled for tomorrow.

Bomb disposal squad has reached the place of incident to investigate any suspicious object found there.

Earlier reports suggested it could be a cylinder blast. But till investigations by police and the bomb disposal team are over, the reason for blast is yet to be confirmed by officials.

Rescue and relief operations are on with the help of police and fire brigade persons. The government has announced Rs 1 lakh support for the family of those who have lost their lives in this attack.

The blast incident has occurred at the German Bakery Koregaon Park. It is located near Osho Ashram which is visited by a lot of foreign nationals.

The injured, meanwhile, have been rushed to the nearby Sassoon Hospital.
